Every Claim, Traced to a Source
Every figure on this site should trace to a source you can check yourself. These are the ones we use, what each covers, and where we use it.
Licensing and Safety
Licensing, consumer protection and safety
- CSLB: Check A License: look up any California contractor by licence number, business name or person. We don’t check contractors ourselves, so use this before anyone starts work. Used on: About, How It Works, FAQ, footer.
- Nationwide Children’s Hospital: ladder injury study: more than 2.1 million people treated in US emergency departments for ladder injuries from 1990 to 2005, about 136,000 a year. Where the location was recorded, 97% happened outside work, such as homes and farms (American Journal of Preventive Medicine, May 2007). Used on: DIY vs Professional.
Local Rules and Climate
Santa Barbara rules and rainfall
- City of Santa Barbara: El Pueblo Viejo Landmark District: properties in the district are under the Historic Landmarks Commission’s jurisdiction for alterations. Used on: Installation, Replacement, Downspouts.
- County of Santa Barbara: Monthly & Yearly Rainfall: official rain gauge records by station. Used on: Cleaning, Repair, Installation, FAQ.
Our data commitment
We don’t publish statistics we can’t source. Prices on this site are typical local ranges, not quotes, and the contractor’s written quote is what you pay. If you find a figure here without a source, call us and we’ll fix or remove it.
